ISHR Professor Jo Becker has published a new book titled “Lessons from Long-Haul Activists: How 25 People Changed the World—and What They Teach Us About Persistence, Strategy, and Hope.” The book draws on candid conversations with 25 activists who have devoted decades to their work and whose achievements have collectively changed the lives of millions. It explores what drives effective activists, the strategies they employ, and the sources of resilience that sustain them. Through stories of perseverance, innovation, and hard-won successes, it offers practical insights and renewed hope for anyone seeking to make the world more just. Among the 25 activists that are featured are three ISHR Human Rights Advocates Program Alumni: Ana Maria Belique of the Dominican Republic, Marijana Savic of Serbia, and Oriana Lopez Uribe of Mexico.
"This has been a deeply meaningful project for me, and I gained new insights and inspiration from every activist I interviewed. I'm excited to share their stories, insights, and hard-won lessons with a wider audience," said Professor Becker.
Professor Becker will talk about the book on Tuesday, October 6 at 12:10 pm, IAB 410. Click here to read more about the event and register.
