On the afternoon of March 27th, students at the Center for Human Rights & Global Justice at NYU Law School welcomed the HRAP participants for an afternoon of conversation, alliance building and solidarity. Under the theme of Resilience and Responsiveness in Human Rights Work, Youssef Farhat, the Executive Director of the Center, led three separate panels with the advocates: Environmental Justice & Community Residence with Ronald Rohrohmana of the Environmental Justice Foundation (Indonesia) and Christopher Rutledge of MACUA WAMUA Advice Office (South Africa); Grassroots Feminism and Leadership with Maiya Shang of the International Indigenous Women’s Forum (India) and Júlia Mota Silva of Fundo Agbara; and Systemic Advocacy and Structural Injustice with Onesmo Olengurumwa of the Tanzania Human Rights Defenders Coalition, and Tatsiana Ziniakova of Human Constanta (Belarus). Stephanie Grepo of ISHR thanked Youssef and students for their incredibly warm welcome as well as for hosting the advocates for the second year in a row.
