Join this event designed to jumpstart your career in human rights! We will feature ISHR Alumni working in academic freedom, immigration, journalism, peacebuilding and AI. It is an interactive event designed as an opportunity to ask questions directly to professionals in the human rights field. Students will break into small groups based on job sectors and speak with ISHR alum about their careers, how they got there, and how to break into their respective fields.  Register here

Rose Anderson is Director for Protection Services at Scholars at Risk, where she oversees SAR’s work providing direct assistance to scholars threatened for their work, identities and/or their activism. Rose has been with SAR since 2015. Prior to joining the SAR team, Rose worked with the Human Rights Advocates Program at Columbia University, a capacity-building and training program for human rights activists from around the world. Rose also worked with WITNESS, where she trained activists in using video for human rights documentation and developed training materials. Rose received her M.A. in Human Rights from Columbia University in 2014. Rose received her B.A. from the Global College program of Long Island University.

Avner Gvaryahu is a former executive director of Breaking the Silence, an Israeli human rights organisation comprised of former soldiers. His paratrooper service in the West Bank transformed his worldview. At Breaking the Silence, he amplified soldier testimonies, built cross-community coalitions, and advocated for accountability internationally. He holds a Master's in Human Rights Studies from Columbia University and is currently studying at the Blavatnik School of Government at Oxford. An Alfred Landecker Scholar, his research focuses on the use of AI in war.

Trisha Mukherjee is an award-winning journalist covering global human rights. Her work on immigration, women's rights, and global health has been featured in The New York Times, ABC News, Business Insider, Sierra Magazine, and more. Her work has taken her from Madagascar to India to Mexico. She graduated with a human rights major from Columbia in 2021. See more of her work at www.trishawrites.com.

Sabrina Shih currently serves as an AI Governance Fellow at the AI Governance Lab at the Center for Democracy & Technology (CDT), where she works to advance solutions that align AI development and deployment with the public interest. Prior to CDT, Sabrina was a Summer Fellow at the Centre for the Governance of AI (GovAI), where she researched assurance technologies for frontier AI companies. She also previously served as AI Policy Manager at the Responsible AI Institute, developing and delivering AI assurance solutions to help organizations adopting AI accelerate their AI risk management and governance maturity. In addition to her AI governance expertise, she has conducted climate policy research for a variety of organizations, including the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science and a Concentration in Human Rights from Columbia University.
